The Metropolis Collection began when Charlotte went to London in 2014 to see the Goldsmiths Fair for the first time. During that time, she took pictures of all the buildings while she made her way around London, and was inspired by the forms and industrial elements of the contemporary architecture in London; Broadgate Tower and Heron Tower in particular.
The concept of an indented edge was developed after sketching, paper and copper models, and finally a 3D representation sketched up into the CAD program Solidworks.
In this collection, the biggest necklace, the horizontal 'Skyscraper', is the only piece made entirely by hand, due to 3D printer size restrictions. All the other pieces have their main components, 3D printed in wax, then cast in silver. After casting, the fittings are made and soldered on by hand, the back of each piece is hand engraved and all the pieces are sanded back to a smooth finish, ready for oxidizing, gold-plating, and hallmarking.
This collection will be expand in late 2017 to include smaller pieces for everyday wear.
